Joining the Peace Corps

Draft v1.01 3/14/14 1343

March 14, 2014

Cover letter to accompany the application of David W Coon to join the Peace Corps as a volunteer for 2 years.

Dear Peace Corps,

My name is David W Coon and I want to join the Peace Corps to help make a difference in the world. I am ready to volunteer the next 2 years of my life. I am willing and able to go anywhere and do anything that the Peace Corps needs me to do. Now is the perfect time in my life to join the Peace Corps. I want to help others, travel the world, and continue my education in a real life practical setting. I am personally committed to personal development, always learning something new and to always be growing as a person. Volunteering 2 years of my life to service for others will truly be a humbling and life defining experience for me. Thank you Peace Corps for this opportunity.

I know what it takes to be a leader and to accomplish the mission. As a US Marine Corps veteran having served 6 years as an Aviation Logistics Specialist, I learned invaluable life skills that I would bring to the Peace Corps. And as college graduate with a major in Sociology, I have a good educational foundation that will service the Peace Corps well.  The combination of my education and military experience, as well as my strong desire to help and serve people around the world, makes me a perfect candidate to join the Peace Corps at this time.

I know that I have much more to learn, that is why an experience like what the Peace Corps has to offer is just perfect for me. This opportunity will make me grow as a person. I want to help others, learn more about the world, gain priceless world experience and really make a positive difference in people’s lives.

I have a lot to offer the Peace Corps. I am a teacher. I know without a shadow of a doubt that teaching others is what I am meant to do with my life. I started my own private tutoring business a few years ago, and the experience couldn’t be more rewarding. I absolutely love teaching. I did most of my teaching as a volunteer at my local Community Senior Center. My passion is to teaching beginner piano lessons, but I also greatly enjoy teaching computer skills and providing personalized help with whatever my students need help with.  I also proudly teach ESL (English as a Second Language),  which I have found that I am naturally really good at teaching. It is such a pleasure to teach people practical and useful skills that they really need and want to learn. Teaching others fulfills me as a person. And it would be true honor to teach people around the world that are in need of essentials life skills such as speaking English and using a computer.

Teaching ESL and practical computer skills is just the start of what I can contribute to the Peace Corps. I also bring a positive upbeat attitude, a caring, compassionate and encouraging demeanor, and a personality that people like to be around.  My core values are Peace, Love and Truth. I stand by my values for life, and I shall never compromise them for anything.

Thank you for considering my application to join the Peace Corps as a volunteer for two years. I am truly grateful for the opportunity that the Peace Corps has to offer me. This is the right time for me to commit the next two years of my life for the greater good and to the service of others.  I am honest, high-energy and extremely hard working. I have what it takes to lead/assist the Peace Corps in accomplishing its mission of helping needy people around the world. With my teaching experience, educational foundation and military service under my belt, I have what it takes to excel as a Peace Corps volunteer.

I look forward to hearing from you soon. I am ready to start my service to the Peace Corps right away.

Sincerely, will total honesty and truth,

David W Coon,
