Positive Energy
I have written about this before. I really haven't thought about it in awhile. I have been reviewing my notes and journals from the past few years trying to find some meaning. The main point that I am trying to make here is that you inevitably get what you give. You get what you think about. You can get what you want, you just have to remain diligent, stay positive and never stop trying. Dwelling on negative thoughts do not help you in the long run. It takes strengths to overcome pessimistic thoughts sometimes, however it is important not to just block out and ignore the underlining problems. It takes courage to confront them and conquer them. Positive energy encourages positive wellness around you and of course the opposite is also true. Which side do you want to be on? I am striving to live my life on the optimistic side of things, even with that being difficult at times.
Recreating your life
Recreating your life…
Have you recently come to the abrupt realization that your life isn't anything close to what you wanted it to be? Whether it's spurred by a mid-life crisis, a near-death experience, a shattering recognition of something you were in denial about, a psychedelic epiphany, or a painful separation, here's how to change the direction that your life is heading.
Steps
- Try to remember what you've always wanted. What did you dream about being and doing when you were a child? Or an invincible teenager? Or an idealistic college student? At many points in our lives, when we encounter obstacles, we tend to settle. What have you settled for? What did you give up on when you settled?
- Be honest with yourself. Pretending that your life is great when it's really not is only going to make things worse. Sure, you've got plenty to be grateful for, but there's nothing wrong with seeking more growth and fulfillment. Don't ever feel that by wanting more, you're forsaking what you already have.
- Write down your goals. Where do you want to be in 5 years? 10 years? What do you want to accomplish before you die? Make lists and time-lines. Keep them close to you, and read them every day, preferably when you wake up.
- Consider making a big change. Switch careers, move to a different area, or end a relationship that's bringing you down. Stop your life from becoming one big routine.
- Expand your comfort zone. Do something that's completely out of character. Shave your head, wear a miniskirt, try karaoke, do a cartwheel barefoot on the grass, etc. Be spontaneous and daring. Even if it has nothing to do with your goals, stepping out of your comfort zone will help you get used to facing your fears, especially people's reactions when you do something they'd never expect you to do.
- Remember that it is your life to live. You should choose what is best for you.
- Try to join a group that supports you and teaches you to enjoy the simple things in life. People spend lots of money going to scenic places to enjoy the natural elements when many or all of those elements are in their own backyard.
- The key is to stay focused on your dreams, no matter how far you may be from accomplishing them. If you don't remember what you want out of life, it's awfully easy to lose your way.
- Focus on what matters the most to you and pursue it unmistakably to the point of being able to grasp only a moment.
- It is better to have experience than not.
- Don't ever think "It's too late," or "I'm too old." It's never too late, and you can never be too old to find happiness. Read Maria Shriver's book "Just Who Will You Be?"
- Visualize yourself as being the way you want to be. See yourself being congratulated, or hugged for what you have done.
- Visualization is very powerful. If done often, it can work.
- You can provide yourself with an extra measure of motivation by using the Best Me Techniqueof self-hypnosis to pre-experience the rewards of a long-term goal, thereby reducing or eliminating the need for "will power."
- Don't hang out with people that bring you down no matter how close to you they are (family, old friends, etc).
- Tend your garden of life one leaf at a time and learn to enjoy it.
- Never say, "I should have done things differently," or "if only I had taken them to the doctor sooner." Blame can be like poison in the body. Accept what has happened and go on with your life because you really cannot change a thing.
- Finding a new job, or a new sport can be the start of a new life. You may find that it will be the best thing that has happened to you, something you have always wanted to do, but never had the nerve to change.
- Rearrange the furniture. Sometimes the memories of a room or a house can be hard to shake. Take an afternoon and rearrange the furniture, pictures, etc. It will start feeling new and fresh and the memories of your new place will be all yours.
- Spend time with people that make you feel good and make you feel positive. You may find that old friends are bringing you down. Change the patterns and surround yourself with people who make you feel better or encourage your self improvement. Sometimes the best way to start over is to cut out the negatives.
Not only has this been helpful to me at this point in my life, but these are the kind of ideas that I can share with people in need as a Social Worker. Still kind of a work in progress...

Revision
As I strive to overcome my weaknesses, I am gaining much strength and valuable experience. This first-hand knowledge of addiction and personal affection is invaluable to me as a social worker. This is giving me tremendous ability to help others as they are struggling through similar problems. Because I can honestly say that I have been there and I understand what they are going through. If only I can make it myself...

Discovery
The DIDS will be a useful tool to give clients of mine as a Social Worker. With only 1 weeks worth of truthful data, accurate analysis of patient's diagnostics can be determined. And with even more data, more accurate diagnoses can take place.

Reflection
Peter's Laws- I have gotten a lot of inspiration from these laws.
(The Creed of the Sociopathic Obsessive Compulsive)
1. If anything can go wrong, fix it! (To hell with Murphy!)
2. When given a choice, take both.
3. Multiple projects lead to multiple successes.
4. Start at the top and work your way up.
5. Do it by the book... but be the author.
6. When forced to compromise, ask for more.
7. If you can't beat them, join them, and then beat them.
8. If it's worth doing, it's got to be done now!
9. If you can't win, change the rules.
10. If you can't change the rules, then ignore them.
11. Perfection is not optional.
12. When faced without a challenge, make one.
13. "No" simply means begin again at one level higher.
14. Don't walk when you can run.
15 .Bureaucracy is a challenge to be conquered with a righteous attitude, a tolerance for stupidity, and a bulldozer when necessary.
16. When in doubt, THINK!
17. Patience is a virtue, but persistence to the point of success is a blessing.
18. The squeaky wheel gets replaced.
19. The faster you move, the slower time passes, the longer you live!

DIDS, The Daily Info Data Sheet
Here is a cool little chart that I am working on. It is part of the time management study that I am conducting. I am in the data gathering phase of the study right now. So I need to keep a log of how I am spending my time. While I am at it, I am using the opportunity to keep track of a number of different things. Why not keep tract of my diet and my mood? I would encourage anyone to copy this chart and modify for themselves and start using it. You might be surprised at what you find. Is there anything that you would want to change about how you use your time?

New direction
- It is what I am most qualified for with my degree in Sociology.
- I want to help people. I have always wanted to help people. I had previously tried on a much bigger scale (the PTP, Public Trust Partnership, check out 2007 blog for more info). and I failed because I simply was not powerful enough. I did not have enough knowledge, experience and resources to make it happen. Thus I am ready to try again, this time at a much more practical level.
- I want to do social work to help my karma. I feel that as cruel and unjust and as unfair the world is, it has been somewhat easy one me. My life is not that bad. I have the power to help and give back, and that is what I want to do now, while it is within my power. It could be much worse. I am not stricken with any major illness at this time. I have a comfortable home and all my basic needs taken care of. I have not been hit by a tsunami or earthquake or tornado. I am still alive and well. I am in good health and good spirits. Life could be much worse. At least I do not live in Libya right now. At least the country that I live in is not going though a civil war right now. (Side note: I think the American currency could fall in the next year, leading to major social anarchy.)
- Realistic means of steady income. Social work will not make me rich, but at least it might stabilize me enough to get a house. Which is a major goal of mine.
