Positive Energy

Law of Attraction

I have written about this before. I really haven't thought about it in awhile. I have been reviewing my notes and journals from the past few years trying to find some meaning. The main point that I am trying to make here is that you inevitably get what you give. You get what you think about.  You can get what you want, you just have to remain diligent, stay positive and never stop trying.  Dwelling on negative thoughts do not help you in the long run. It takes strengths to overcome pessimistic thoughts sometimes, however it is important not to just block out and ignore the underlining problems. It takes courage to confront them and conquer them. Positive energy encourages positive wellness around you and of course the opposite is also true. Which side do you want to be on? I am striving to live my life on the optimistic side of things, even with that being difficult at times.

Recreating your life

Here is some info that I found on WikiHow. I have found some of this helpful as I can relate parts of it to my own life. Hopefully someone else that is reading this can find something valuable in it too. I think that everyone, no matter who you are or how happy your life is, could benefit in some way from at least considering some of these points.

Recreating your life…

Have you recently come to the abrupt realization that your life isn't anything close to what you wanted it to be? Whether it's spurred by a mid-life crisis, a near-death experience, a shattering recognition of something you were in denial about, a psychedelic epiphany, or a painful separation, here's how to change the direction that your life is heading.

Steps
  1. Try to remember what you've always wanted. What did you dream about being and doing when you were a child? Or an invincible teenager? Or an idealistic college student? At many points in our lives, when we encounter obstacles, we tend to settle. What have you settled for? What did you give up on when you settled?
  2. Be honest with yourself. Pretending that your life is great when it's really not is only going to make things worse. Sure, you've got plenty to be grateful for, but there's nothing wrong with seeking more growth and fulfillment. Don't ever feel that by wanting more, you're forsaking what you already have.
  3. Write down your goals. Where do you want to be in 5 years? 10 years? What do you want to accomplish before you die? Make lists and time-lines. Keep them close to you, and read them every day, preferably when you wake up.
  4. Consider making a big change. Switch careers, move to a different area, or end a relationship that's bringing you down. Stop your life from becoming one big routine.
  5. Expand your comfort zone. Do something that's completely out of character. Shave your head, wear a miniskirt, try karaoke, do a cartwheel barefoot on the grass, etc. Be spontaneous and daring. Even if it has nothing to do with your goals, stepping out of your comfort zone will help you get used to facing your fears, especially people's reactions when you do something they'd never expect you to do.
  6. Remember that it is your life to live. You should choose what is best for you.
  7. Try to join a group that supports you and teaches you to enjoy the simple things in life. People spend lots of money going to scenic places to enjoy the natural elements when many or all of those elements are in their own backyard.
 Tips
  • The key is to stay focused on your dreams, no matter how far you may be from accomplishing them. If you don't remember what you want out of life, it's awfully easy to lose your way.
  • Focus on what matters the most to you and pursue it unmistakably to the point of being able to grasp only a moment.
  • It is better to have experience than not.
  • Don't ever think "It's too late," or "I'm too old." It's never too late, and you can never be too old to find happiness. Read Maria Shriver's book "Just Who Will You Be?"
  • Visualize yourself as being the way you want to be. See yourself being congratulated, or hugged for what you have done.
  • Visualization is very powerful. If done often, it can work.
  • You can provide yourself with an extra measure of motivation by using the Best Me Techniqueof self-hypnosis to pre-experience the rewards of a long-term goal, thereby reducing or eliminating the need for "will power."
  • Don't hang out with people that bring you down no matter how close to you they are (family, old friends, etc).
  • Tend your garden of life one leaf at a time and learn to enjoy it.
Starting Over
  • Never say, "I should have done things differently," or "if only I had taken them to the doctor sooner." Blame can be like poison in the body. Accept what has happened and go on with your life because you really cannot change a thing.
  • Finding a new job, or a new sport can be the start of a new life. You may find that it will be the best thing that has happened to you, something you have always wanted to do, but never had the nerve to change.
  • Rearrange the furniture. Sometimes the memories of a room or a house can be hard to shake. Take an afternoon and rearrange the furniture, pictures, etc. It will start feeling new and fresh and the memories of your new place will be all yours.
  • Spend time with people that make you feel good and make you feel positive. You may find that old friends are bringing you down. Change the patterns and surround yourself with people who make you feel better or encourage your self improvement. Sometimes the best way to start over is to cut out the negatives.
Starting over again, whether if is a result of a divorce, or death of a spouse, or the loss of a job after many long years, can be painful to experience. Starting again, has caused many a hardship, anxiety, separation or depression. We all, at one time or another, have had to pick ourselves up and start again, even if the cause was injury that resulted in changing sports. Once finally accept these changes as a part of life can we once again move forward. We only live once, and we can't live in the past forever.

Not only has this been helpful to me at this point in my life, but these are the kind of ideas that I can share with people in need as a Social Worker. Still kind of a work in progress...

Revision

I am continuing to refine everything in my life. As I am starting to get much more organized, I have been able to refine and improve many aspects of my life. I am admittedly trying to conquer all the incongruousness in my life, as there are a few major ones. (future posts will elaborate on incongruousness with Truth, Love and Power. regular readers know what I am talking about )
As I strive to overcome my weaknesses, I am gaining much strength and valuable experience. This first-hand knowledge of addiction and personal affection is invaluable to me as a social worker. This is giving me tremendous ability to help others as they are struggling through similar problems. Because I can honestly say that I have been there and I understand what they are going through. If only I can make it myself...
I will make it. I will survive. I will be successful. I have the intelligence and the ambition to do anything I want.
And I have found my purpose. Being a behavioral health social worker utilizes all of my skills as a sociologist. I am very effective at interviewing and diagnosing individuals. I have a passion for collecting and analyzing social statistics. I have a strong desire to help people. I also want a professional career. And I have the talent and the ambition and the passion to pursue a career in social work. I am certain that this is what I want to do. I am very at ease with this decision. This is the right career choice for me at this point in my life.
Now all I need to do is get a master degree in social work. Being a social worker at this point in my life just feels natural.
I just wish I could start helping people now. I have the skills and knowledge, just not the credentials. A masters degree in social work is supposed to take 18 months. I intend to do it in 12...
Supposedly there are not a lot of unemployed social workers these days. This profession won't make me rich, but it will fulfill my purpose. I feel that is it an extremely valuable profession for society. Especially in todays harsh economy. There are a lot of people that need help. There are desperate people out there that do not know where to turn or what to do and feel completely helpless. There is hope. There are people out there that want to and are willing to help you. If it wasn't for the few compassionate social workers that I have met in the past few weeks, I don't know if I would still be alive today. Social workers are compassionate and honest people. Who only have the best intentions. This job description fits me perfectly...

Soon to be: dwcoon MSW (master social worker) sounds like an appropriate title for me at the current time...

Discovery

I have made an interesting discovery. The DIDS (Daily Info Data Sheet) is proving itself more and more useful. I have introduced it to a few people, who greeting it with some enthusiastic appeal. It seems that other people might also find it to be useful. All they have to do is modify to meet their own needs.

Okay so here is my first hypothesis within my Time Management Study:

Hypothesis #1 of dwcoon's time management study:
The DIDS will be a useful tool to give clients of mine as a Social Worker. With only 1 weeks worth of truthful data, accurate analysis of patient's diagnostics can be determined. And with even more data, more accurate diagnoses can take place.
The DIDS needs a few more weeks of my personal testing to be more refined and fine tuned for public use. I have been honestly and truthfully filling them out for myself every day for the past few weeks. I have been surprised by some of the results. When the results and the statistics come in, you really might end up being surprised too.
- Remember that I have a minor in social statistics (combo of standard sociology and psychology social research conducted using the scientific method, and analysis of social statistics, including the General Social Survey and The US Census statical records).
I have experiences in collecting and analyzing raw data and compiling it into more readable and understandable data for a wider audience to view and understand. This is common practice is all scientific studies.

And the best part is that it only takes a few minutes a day to fill out. And if you fill the sheet out reguarly, you dont even have to remember that facts for very long. The DIDS should not take more the 10-15 minutes a day to fill out. And the results of the data may prove to be very valuable to you.

I also am currently working on a Masters Degree in Social Work and this could end up being part of my Masters Thesis.

More updates to come as this study continues.
Stay Tuned.

Reflection

It is time to reflect on the past and try to understand the truth about it as much as possible. This is in hopes of a clearer understanding of the present NOW. The Daily Info Data Sheet or DIDS, is proving to be a valuable tool of data gathering. I am still gathering data at this point and have not started the analytical process yet, but I have made some very interesting observations and I have started making a few hypothesis. It is very exciting.

I am mustering the courage to see life as challenging and exciting instead of overwhelming. Skill-building, career advancement and education are my major focusing points right now. The future is going to be an improvement on the past instead of just a mear continuation of the past.
I want to really start utilizing my energy more effectively. Just getting by isn't good enough anymore. I want to starting doing a good job, no, I am going to give it my best.

I have been managing my time more effectively, I am increasing my productivity and I am much more organized. I have the willpower to be greatly more self-disciplined and I am going to do it.

Much more to come as more data comes in. I am really looking forward to it.

Social Worker

________________________________

New Mission OBJECTIVE: Social Worker

I want to be a Social Worker. I want to help people and make a difference. And I want to use my strong people skills and unique abilities to contribute to society. I want to help people in any way I can, even if that means helping one person at a time. I want to do whatever I can to help. And it is within my power and I have the knowledge and the desire to help; now all I need is to find somewhere to work that can use me to my greatest potential. A focus on mental health and behavioral psychology has always been a major interest of mine. I believe in social welfare for all and that everyone deserves to be happy. And it takes dedicated conscious and caring social workers combined with the power of counseling and the resources of the entire community to make a positive difference for everyone.

DIDS, The Daily Info Data Sheet

Here is a cool little chart that I am working on. It is part of the time management study that I am conducting. I am in the data gathering phase of the study right now. So I need to keep a log of how I am spending my time. While I am at it, I am using the opportunity to keep track of a number of different things. Why not keep tract of my diet and my mood? I would encourage anyone to copy this chart and modify for themselves and start using it. You might be surprised at what you find. Is there anything that you would want to change about how you use your time?

New direction

I have found a new direction. I have finally realized that I want to become a social worker. It took me a long time to reach this conclusion. It just makes the most sense at this point in my life. I have a bachelors degree in sociology which most directly relates to social work. I had previously considered a career in social work but ignored it because i realized that I would not make much money doing it.
But what is it worth helping someone? I might be able to save someone life. What amount of money is that worth? More than a CEO of an oil company? Probably, but that is not the way the world works. Teachers, social workers and most civil servants probably do not make as much money as they should, but that is just the way the world is.
I have decided to commit to a career of social work for many reasons:

  • It is what I am most qualified for with my degree in Sociology.
  • I want to help people. I have always wanted to help people. I had previously tried on a much bigger scale (the PTP, Public Trust Partnership, check out 2007 blog for more info). and I failed because I simply was not powerful enough. I did not have enough knowledge, experience and resources to make it happen. Thus I am ready to try again, this time at a much more practical level.
  • I want to do social work to help my karma. I feel that as cruel and unjust and as unfair the world is, it has been somewhat easy one me. My life is not that bad. I have the power to help and give back, and that is what I want to do now, while it is within my power. It could be much worse. I am not stricken with any major illness at this time. I have a comfortable home and all my basic needs taken care of. I have not been hit by a tsunami or earthquake or tornado. I am still alive and well. I am in good health and good spirits. Life could be much worse. At least I do not live in Libya right now. At least the country that I live in is not going though a civil war right now. (Side note: I think the American currency could fall in the next year, leading to major social anarchy.)
  • Realistic means of steady income. Social work will not make me rich, but at least it might stabilize me enough to get a house. Which is a major goal of mine.
Completely new direction and new hope in my life. There is so much I can do. I have so much potential. I am very smart and I can do a lot of good in the world. All I have to do is really apply myself. I might have finally found a field that really feel good for me. Being a Social Worker feels very natural for me. It feels right. I am comfortable with the decision to forfeit potential great wealth at this time in exchange for positive karma. My major goal right now is to help the world in some way, even if that is only one person at a time. I plan to immediately volunteer at the VA Hospital. I want to do whatever I can. I want to teach a class. I have learned to much about the world in my short life so far, I want to share it. And people in despair might be just the people that need it the most.
